How Does The Process Work? Below is a step-by-step overview of our custom tuning process.
- Plug your device into the vehicles OBDII port. The device will automatically power on.
- If the device does not automatically power on, you likely have a blown fuse that needs replacing. It will be the same fuse as the cigarette lighter and 12v accessory port.
- Select “Program Vehicle” by selecting the center button on your X4 and follow the onscreen device prompts for key cycles on and off.
- The first time tuning your vehicle will take some time. The device will save your stock file in addition to tuning your application.
- Under preloaded tunes, select 5 Star 87 RV to load onto your motorhome.
- If the device states “unsupported vehicle” use the steps outlined below to obtain your ecu strategy code and/or ecu swpn.
- After you select your tune, you will have user adjustable options. Continue with this step or arrow to the right and select approve to skip. After this step, custom programming will begin.
- Once tuning has completed the device will show download complete and will prompt you to turn the key off. At this point, you may disconnect your device.
- If in step 3.1 you received an “unsupported vehicle” message we will need your ecu strategy code or ecu swpn prior to writing your custom tune.
- Email your vehicles ecu strategy code to sales@5startuning.com. Below is the needed vehicle information:
- For 1996 – 2014 vehicles: calibration codes are listed under “ECU Strategy”
- For 2015-2021 vehicles: calibration codes are listed under “ECU Strategy SWPN”
- For 2011 – 2016 6.7L Diesel applications: calibration codes are listed under “ECU Strategy,” “ECU SWPN,” “TCU Strategy,” & “TCU SWPN.”
- For 2017 – 2019 6.7L Diesel applications: calibration codes are listed under “ECU SWPN” & “TCU SWPN.”
How Long Does Installation Take? The installation will take approximately 5-10 minutes.
Do I Need A Shop To Install? The installation process of the tuner is simple and can be performed by anyone. No tools are required for the installation.

I had an issue with my Nguage tuner that caused me a lot of trouble. Tony was awsome in getting me a replacement tuner RTD. Again I had issue with getting tunes and tuner to work together. Again Tony worked with me with a stubborn tuner and my finicky truck. Through many emails and phone calls, we finally got the problem resolved. My hat's off to Tony and Adam for working through this with me. Bad ass job guys!!!

Pre 5 star tune we were considering going to a diesel pusher from our 2011 Itasca Sunstar. We loved the RV but the lack of power and constant down shifting was very annoying. Post 5 star tune and we have no plans on selling the Sunstar and going to a DP. The difference is amazing. There is noticeably more power and the V10 moves the RV without straining now. The interior noise is a fraction of what it was. Now even moderately steep hills are taken without downshifting. This is a rare exception of getting more than you pay for.

I have a 2017 Thor ACE 30.2, without the tune it would struggle uphill, the shift points were off. With the tune I can climb through the sierras no problem and could pass the semis that were in my way crawling. I check gas mileage on my last trip (mostly flat) and I increased to 8.1 mpg running the generator the whole trip for kids. Before gas mileage was a low 6. Great upgrade for any RV, you won't be disappointed,

After purchasing a 2019 Coachmen Leprechaun I came across this device on a Facebook push. Looked it over, watched the videos but was a little set off by the price. During a trip to North Carolina a fellow camper came over and basically told me "i was put off by the cost as well, but pulled the trigger and made the purchase. Man I'm glad I did". That was enough for me to purchase it. Company stayed on line with me well past closing to get the tune downloaded and onto the device. Vehicle loading was simple and took 15 minutes. First trip was from VA Beach to Lancaster PA with a toad. First tank of gas had some old tune miles and some generator time on it. First fuel stop showed an improvement of 7.1 to 7.3 MPG with a toad. Second and third tanks were 7.8 with a toad. The additional MPG is an added bonus. Tune provided much better acceleration, better shift points, less uphill downshifting, better standing start power, quieter in the driver area, you name it, it was better. It was an effort not to drive this thing like my Tundra.
If in doubt, don't be.

OMG ... the feeling of driving up a small hill in 6th gear maintaining 70 mph ... sweet.
We run 25000 pounds and are used to hanging with the slow trucks. Trying to pass was just too much drama. I mostly had to hand fly the rig as cruise control would make the drivetrain downshift to 4th way too easy. I just gave up and drove it at 60 mph.
Post update the rig loves small inclines now. It's like having a 75 lbs electric booster now. I hang with the average speed trucks now. My wife immediately remarked how quiet it was. At one point I looked over at her and said l just hit 80 mph and she did not even notice!
This was one of the best upgrades after you get a tpms, navi, and camera setup.

After reading the reviews I had to join in to express my satisfaction with the the 5 Star Tune on My 2015 Winebago Sightseer 35G. No big trips yet but just a short 50 mile trip around this area I noticed a major change in the performance of the V10 powered drive train. The difference was so obvious I can’t wait to hit the road and go somewhere. Living just north of Dallas we head up to Oklahoma now and then and the little hills make me disengage the cruse to keep the shifting under control. The little hills I tested in the 50 mile trip had no shifting and held the speed constant. Very nice. Thanks to 5startune for developing this product. It is well worth the price.

To be honest, I didn't want to spend the money, but I'm glad I did. I live in West Virginia (the mountain state), and the factory shifting of my 2008 E450 Ford chassis Class C was a mess. Upon losing speed on a hill it would downshift WAY down, skipping gears, revving the engine over 4500 RPM at times. The engine would suddenly sound like it was going to explode. It was very unsettling, which didn't make for relaxed driving, and I couldn't help worry about the engine and transmission. This was what caused me to spring for the tuner. I'm so glad I did. First, it added noticeable horsepower and torque. What this did was enable the RV to hold speeds on grades that it simply couldn't do before. In many cases I can now hold 60 MPH (which is where I like to cruise in an RV), on fairly significant grades, without downshifting. All by itself, this is big. On steeper grades, when downshifting is inevitable, it's measured and logical. It holds the higher gears as long as makes sense, then begins to drop thru the gears. No sudden jumps from 2500 RPM to 4500 RPM. Upshifting is also improved. Before I never used cruise control, because I was always trying to protect the engine from ridiculous downshifting, and the resultant over-revving (in my opinion). Since the tune, I'm able to lock in the cruise control, while traveling in West Virginia and relax. I'm sure I'm saving wear and tear on both the engine and transmission. As best as I can tell, there is no change whatsoever in my gas mileage, but that's with a definite power boost, so I'll call that a win. So glad I acquired this tune!

Took my first trip after installing the 5 star tune on my Thor Class A motorhome with the infamous 6.8 V-10. Let me tell you, this is awesome. my motorhome now shifts like a dream (It was horrible before.) Also I can now use my cruise control. I tried using cruise control when i first bought the coach and immediately knew it wasn't going to work. the least little hill, it down shifted too low and the engine was screaming. now it's perfect. Well worth what i paid. Thanks so much.
