SUMMARY: Lafayette will soon see new traffic lights installed at over 20 intersections throughout the city, costing more than $1 million. One such updated intersection is Ambassador Caffrey Parkway and Eras Langry Road. Jamie Buro from Lafayette City and Parish highlights that flashing yellow arrows will replace traditional yield-on-green signals, enhancing driver caution when making left turns. Studies indicate that flashing yellow arrows are more understandable to drivers. Additionally, new back plates with yellow borders will be added to improve visibility. The project, aimed at increasing public safety for both drivers and pedestrians, is expected to be completed in November.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that work is starting on a $1.1 million project to install flashing yellow arrow signals at various intersections in Lafayette.

SUMMARY: As beachgoers head to the beach this summer, there are sobering reminders of the dangers in the ocean. At least six people have died in Florida due to rip currents. A young man drowned in Panama City Beach after being dragged into a rip current, one of several recent deaths. Three Alabama men died shortly into their vacation in the Florida Panhandle, and Pennsylvania parents Brian Wer and Erica Wishard drowned off Hutchinson Island while trying to rescue their teens. Many Florida beaches posted red flags for dangerous conditions. Beach safety officials advise staying calm and floating if caught in a rip current, and highlight the importance of lifeguards.
