A Las Vegas bride-to-be is upset after a judge allowed TLC to air an episode of “Say Yes to the Dress” showing the choosing of her bridal gown before her actual wedding day.
According to ABC News, Las Vegas resident Ali Godino, 27, flew to New York City in September to purchase her wedding gown. After spending $20,000 on her dress, which according to her legal complaint is “one of the most elegant and expensive (dresses) in the store,” Godino was approached by producers from “Say Yes to The Dress” because their previously scheduled bride did not show up.
Godino agreed to participate in the “Say Yes to the Dress” taping under the condition that the episode would not air until after her May wedding — a stipulation that Godino says producers agreed to in front of both her mother and fiancee, New York Daily News notes.
However, in February, Godino was informed that her episode would debut on March 25, almost two months before her actual wedding day.
After producers refused to delay airing the episode, Godino took the television network to court, where a judge ruled in the show’s favor and allowed the network to air her episode because Godino had signed a waiver that gave the production company rights to use her image. The waiver did not mention any conditions about when Godino’s segment would air.
“I appreciate that (airing the show) could take away from the pageantry of the wedding,” Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Nancy Bannon said. “She could have said no and turned them down and they would have gone onto the next bride.”
According to Godino’s attorney, Frank Taddeo, Jr., “Godino hoped to make a dramatic entrance but she can’t now because her guests will probably see her in the gown on social media even if they don’t see the show.”
Godino is set to marry professional hockey player Jeff May in Palm Springs, Calif., this May.
