Can I get into NYU with a 3.7 GPA? ›

Although there are no official NYU GPA requirements, you should plan to exceed the average NYU GPA of 3.7. Also, try to impress at your NYU interview, write solid essays, and prepare early to match the average NYU SAT scores.

If you want to get in, the first thing to look at is the acceptance rate. This tells you how competitive the school is and how serious their requirements are. The acceptance rate at NYU is 12.5%. For every 100 applicants, only 13 are admitted.

There's no minimum GPA you need to apply to NYU. But the applicants who actually get admitted tend to have strong GPAs. As you might remember from our NYU Common Data Set post, 21% of enrolled first-year NYU students had a perfect 4.0 GPA in high school. What's more, 85% had above a 3.5.

To be safe, you should aim for the 75th percentile, with a 1560 SAT and a 3.8 GPA or higher to be above average.

Although we expect students to have a 3.5 GPA, we do not impose it as a set minimum. However, our applicant pool is academically strong and very competitive.

Niche, a ranking and review site, recently published its list of the “2023 Hardest Colleges to Get Into.” Using data from the U.S. Department of Education on various colleges' acceptance rates and SAT/ACT scores, they found, unsurprisingly, Harvard University to be the most difficult college to get into.
